Objectives

  • Configure Matter ID number

Steps

The system automatically generates a unique ID for both corporate matters and litigation cases, starting with "M" followed by Zeros and the ID number (Ex: M0000596). You have the flexibility to customize and configure these IDs, allowing you to differentiate between matters and cases, add specific keywords, and more.

The Matter ID configuration can be done from the Matters Settings, therefore go to the System Settings→ Matters→ ID Configuration

The ID In Matters is composed of 3 sections :

  • Custom Prefix: You can assign any keyword or abbreviation to represent the matter category, allowing you to differentiate between corporate matters and litigation cases. For example, corporate matter IDs can start with "CM" and litigation cases with "LC."
  • Practice Area Prefix: The abbreviation of each practice area type. For example Administrative might be ADMIN.
  • The ID is the number auto-generated by the system.

The Practice Area Prefix can be edited from the Practice Area & Due Dates Settings Page.
Only 5 characters are allowed in the Custom Prefix, and the Default is "M" for both Corporate Matters and Litigation Cases.

The first 2 sections can be enabled/disabled on the ID Configuration page in the settings as needed.

After configuring the ID as needed, click "Save" and confirm your update in the pop-up message that will display the changes to be applied.

The enabled sections will only appear in the Matter ID.

To edit the Practice Area Prefix, go to the Practice Areas & Due Dates within the Matters Settings

You will find on this page all the practice areas types and their prefixes. At the level of the practice area you need click on edit and modify the prefix as needed.
